Has Anyone Tried Homemade Wasp Traps? [SURVEY]

I've got a wasp problem. I'm thinking of making my own traps but I keep hearing conflicting opinions. Right now I'm trying to lure them with canned cat food... more about that later. What have you heard works?
All the "experts" online are saying it's really easy. Cut a 2-litre pop bottle in half, turn the top upside down so it's inverted inside the bottle. Tape it up and poor some of the soda into the bottle. That's supposed to work! I've also heard to use raw meat or cat food during the summer instead of soda.
