Pasco Police said Friday the suspect arrested for allegedly stomping her roommate's kitten to death Wednesday is known to suffer from mental health issues. The incident occurred that afternoon near 4th and Sylvester Street.

Police said the woman, who's facing two misdemeanors for  Animal Cruelty and Resisting Arrest, is "known" to them; meaning they've had dealings with her before.

And, sadly, she is also "known" to the Pasco PD MHP (Mental Health Providers) Outreach officers. They're trained counselors who accompany officers on patrols and calls, and are used to 'calm' or assist people obviously in mental distress in situations.

Police said these MHP officers are trying hard to refer her for more intensive, thorough counseling and assistance. We hope they're able to do so.
