Driver of Potato Truck That Hit Transit Bus Admits “He Had No Brakes”
The crash tied up traffic at Highway 395 and Hildebrand in Kennewick for hours. Fortunately, the bus was not full or the crash would have been far worse. Five people on board were injured, one seriously, but no fatalities.
Investigators now say the potato truck that struck the bus had faulty brakes, in fact, no brakes at all.
According to YakTriNews.com, WSP Troopers said they were not surprised to find the truck didn't have working brakes. In fact, the driver, Zuri Moya-Jiminez, told officers at the scene he had absolutely no brakes at all.
WSP troopers say the truck was missing brakes on three of the four axels! Jiminez was also cited for driving with an expired license, and not wearing a seat belt.
YakTriNews.com says the accident will result in a series of fines for the driver and the trucking company. It is far too early to presume anything, but it would not be surprising if legal action results from the citations for faulty equipment on the semi.
