My son Alex is joining the Air Force in two weeks and I'm having a REALLY hard time with the idea of him leaving home! I shared my thoughts on Facebook and a lot of friends shared their thoughts and prayers with me making me feel much better. Thank you so much. Take a look at the wonderful things people said. I have the best friends in the world:

  • Big Hugs my friend, sadly the easy part of being a parent ends, now you really get to see what your made of.
  •  I remember when my son left for the Air Force, he called as much as he could, I sent him letters and goodie pkgs. I even went to San Antonio before he got out of basic and he got to stay the weekend with me at the hotel. We did a lot in 2 days. He loved the Air Force, he even made a remark to me later on after basic, "mom I wish you would have been a little harder on me" I had to laugh. It was tough.
  • Go Airforce! Great choice!  God bless!
  • my ex was in the airforce 33 years and retired and has a fiull pension its a good job if you like it.
  • You have many friends who are here for ya Greg Delange, to give you their support!
  • I'll be your new son!
  • Let your heart be lightened by the fact that you are an amazing Father & that your son has grown up to be the young man strong enough to make the outstanding & admirable decision he has to join the Air Force.
  • Congratulations Gregg. That's the most important job a person can ever have. If you are a good parent your children will become good citizens. Job well done man.
  • You're one of best dads I know. One of the best people I know. I'll be there for ya where I can. I also know the sad can never overshadow the proud.
  • Greg,
There comes a time in life when we have to leave everything behind and start something new. Although we do not forget the ones that stood beside us, especially the ones that never gave up on us. It is hard to look into the future when so many memories come to mind, but by being such a great Father you have carved your soul into your Sons heart to remain as one. I wish him well and you both strength. You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore!! GO AIR FORCE...
  • That's an amazing thing for him to go into, I totally know how you feel, my oldest has been in the AirForce for 4 years now. Its harder on us than them... Its a great expeence for him  Congrat''s to your son.
  • Awww Greg Delange I know its hard ,but pat yerself on the back for raising him into the great young man.. And thats something to be proud of !!!
  • I understand as a parent but know you did a fine job. When does Alex get sworn in. I have friends who will be in Spokane on March 4th with their son as well.
  • We've done our job as parents, now it's time to let them fly. My son leaves on March 4th for the Air Force.
  • You are a fantastic dad! He is very blessed to have you!
  • Be proud of yourself for a job well done, and proud of the son that you've shaped in to a fine young man. Letting go is never easy, but then, we never really let go.
  • You are a great dad and you have raised a wonderful young man. Our family wishes him all the best. If you get lonely I have a few boys I could send over.
  • A bittersweet congrats to you and your son!Serving our country is the greatest gift your son can give!My brother retired from The Air Force after over 30 years of service;he traveled the world and had a great career.Be strong and PROUD (through the tears of course)!!!
  • Good Job Dad! It's not an easy row to hoe, but you have raised him well.
  • Being a good dad is a big accomplishment and something to be proud of. You have two great boys which means you did a wonderful job.
  • You've done a lot right Greg, but you have done an exceptional job with your boys! I know that Dustin is very important to a lot of my daughters peers/friends and I think it is truly beautiful the good influence he puts into their lives.
  • I know that feeling and it hurts very bad for quite awhile but eventually you adapt and it's ok. That first month is nothing but a cry fest though!
  • If the only thing you've been good at is being a father, awesome for you! Not many can say this! You've helped a child find wings- time to let him go....congrats! He will be just fine!
  • He is going to have a wonderful adventure  And yes you will, but he will be back and just think of all the things you two will have to talk about on the phone and when you see each other.
  • What a brave young man!
  • Hey Greg. My son just called last night for his last phone call for a few weeks. I know how your feeling but you'll make it and he will also. I know your so proud of him. The feeling I have for my son right now is that he is so brave! It's a huge step to leave everything you've ever known and go do something you really have no idea what your in for. You and him are going to do just fine.
  • Greg, you have been a wonderful father to our boys and tons of dads could take lessons from you! Ok, maybe sending them home full of candy and Mountain Dew when they were younger wasn't the best, but otherwise you've been great! Soooo proud of Alex!!! Definitely bittersweet....
  • I for one am very proud of your son. He is doing something really good for his country and himself. I would like to thank him for his courage to go out and serve his country. Greg you are one of the best fathers those boy's could have. I know your heart is heavy but it also is because you are so proud of the young man your son has become. Stand proud.
  • I felt exactly the same when my daughter left for marines boot camp right out of high school in 98.
