I split a ton of logs when I was a kid.  We had a big beautiful fireplace in our Montana home outside of Helena.  The thrill of mastering the swing of an axe as a kid was pretty cool.  Later dad showed me how use a wedge or splitting moll.  But as the years go on, the thrill is less and you just want the job done!  Check out this homemade splitting dandy:
