September 11th Memorial and Dedication this Sunday in Kennewick

 

102.7 KORD along with our local Townsquare Media radio stations – 98.3 The Key, 97 Rock, 97.5 Cool FM, and Newstalk 870 KFLD will join the City of Kennewick along with hundreds of volunteers and businesses for a special September 11th memorial and dedication of a steel column from the World Trade Center. This special dedication ceremony happens at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11th at the new Southridge Sports Complex in Kennewick. After the ceremony, those in attendance will have the opportunity to help simultaneously release three-thousand red, white, and blue balloons into the Tri-City skies - honoring the approximate number of victims of the 9-11 attacks.

Hurricane Irene Aftermath — At Least 44 Dead and Millions Without Power [VIDEO]

Cleanup efforts have begun in communities that were devastated by Hurricane Irene over the weekend. Although trucks and supplies from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are en route, access to some areas has been cut off by floodwaters that washed out or damaged roads and bridges.

“Irene was gonna land somewhere. We’re not Manhattan, our small streams quickly became big rivers,” Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin told The Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer. “We’ve lost churches, homes and historic bridges. But we will rebuild.”

Which States Have the Highest Marriage and Divorce Rates?

The 2009 Census reveals that while couples in western and southern states marry more often, they also divorce at a higher rate than those in other areas of the US.

Andrew Cherlin, a professor of sociology and public policy at Johns Hopkins University, said, “Surprisingly, the south and west, which we think of as more socially conservative, have higher rates of divorce than does the supposedly liberal east. The reason is that young adults in the south and west tend to have less education and marry earlier, both of which lead to a higher risk of divorce.”

Hawaii Remains the Nation’s Happiest State, But What’s the Unhappiest One?

Just like it did last year, Hawaii snagged the top spot in Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which ranks the happiness level of each state.

The index bases happiness on a combination of six factors: emotional health, physical health, healthy lifestyle, job satisfaction, access to health care and safe places to exercise, and, finally, life evaluation — which includes a self-evaluation about your present life situation and your anticipated life situation in five years.

About 177,000 Americans 18 and older took the survey, which was administered between January and June of this year. North Dakota and Alaska took second and third, respectively, while West Virginia rated the unhappiest state. Check out where your state landed below.
