You Could Commit Murder and Get Away With It Near Washington State
There Is A Place Called The Zone Of Death Where You Could Get Away With Murder
There's a place called the Zone Of Death and it might be the one place in the United States where you could commit murder and get away with it.
Three States Converge Making It Difficult To Prosecute Crimes In The Zone
If you watch the streaming series Yellowstone with Kevin Costner, it's been hinted at, and believe it or not, it's actually not fiction but an area where murder hypothetically could occur and you could get away with it on the Idaho border.
The Zone Of Death is a 50-square-mile area of Yellowstone National Park where a constitutional loophole exists. It's possible to commit a crime, even murder, and you might be able to get away with it.
The United States District Court for the District of Wyoming is currently the only United States district court to have jurisdiction over parts of multiple states. This is because its jurisdiction includes all of Yellowstone National Park, which extends slightly beyond Wyoming's boundaries into Idaho and Montana. In addition, the federal government has exclusive jurisdiction over the park, so crimes committed in the park cannot be prosecuted under any of the states' laws.
The reasoning behind the Zone of Death area is that the Constitution calls for a trial of a jury of your peers from the state and district where the crime is committed and this area of Yellowstone in Idaho State is uninhabited so you wouldn't be able to get a jury together to oversee the case.
The TV Show "Yellowstone" Has Hinted At This Death Zone In The Series
The Zone Of Death has been a topic for many years as legislators have tried to close the loophole and even discussions of the zone have people worried that someone would actually attempt to get away with murder because of the loophole.
The good news is that no crime has ever been reported in the Zone of Death but it's interesting that lawmakers don't seem to want to fix the loophole.
The Zone was even featured on 48 Hours, I've included the video below:
It's a fascinating area of Idaho and Wyoming and I'm sure it's a beautiful area of Yellowstone but it might be an area you might want to avoid.
