Buy a good fertilizer like Scotts, but I've also had good results with the Walmart brand pictured below. (This is spring and summer stuff...)

Make sure your fertilizer is for winter or fall application, but don't wait until the ground freezes to apply. Spread evenly after your last mow and you will be happy with Spring results! NITROGEN is the most important ingredient in a good fall fertilizer!
