Weirdest Story of 2013 Nomination: Doc Reunites Man With Amputated Arm 50 Years Later

During the Vietnam War Houston surgeon Sam Axelrad amputated a man's infected arm. What happened next is too weird to be made up:The doc's friends boiled the flesh off the amputated arm and connected the bones into a skeleton arm like a science teacher might use. The friends gifted Axelrad the arm before returning home.

Likely thinking it was as weird as we do, he stuck it in a bag once he got home and threw the bag in a closet.

Fast forward 47 years. Axelrad found the bag and decided to travel to Vietnam to find the amputee and return the arm to its rightful owner.

With the help of a Vietnamese journalist, the two got the word out and were able to find Nguyen Quang Hung who now plans to be buried with his complete body.
