Washington Schools Closed but Will Continue Online Classes

The statewide closure of schools will now continue through the end of the school year according to Gov. Inslee at a press conference today. 

The "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" has been extended to May 4th and now public and private schools will remain closed until the end of the academic year to combat COVID-19.

Inslee held the press conference with Washington Superintendent of Schools Chris Reykdal.

The school closures include all public and private school grades K-12.

Officials said that seniors will be allowed to graduate if they meet the state requirements. The focus will shift to online classes and courses that were started roughly three weeks ago.

The news wasn't unexpected as the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" mandate was extended to May 4th.

Washington State will continue instruction via distance learning and officials think that in-person schooling will resume in the fall.
