Updated–New Fire, Burn Bans All over Eastern WA

Tuesday, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issued a new round of burn, campfire, and other restrictions on virtually all DNR-managed lands in Eastern WA.

According to DNR, the record-setting hot weather has spiked our fire danger, and the following restrictions are now in effect:

"The fire restrictions order includes prohibiting the discharging of a firearm, except while engaged in lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal or tribal law and regulations. The building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, including charcoal briquette fires, except when contained within provided metal rings, will also be prohibited."

These new restrictions are going into effect for the following counties, according to DNR:

"The temporary ban will take effect July 1, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. in the following counties: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima."

These restrictions will be in place until temps cool and conditions change. There are also some restrictions on off-road vehicles, and smoking is banned on some Bureau of Land Management areas as well. But with the weather we've been having this week, many folks are looking out of state or to other mountain areas to try to get away from our Eastern WA heat.

DNR pretty much manages all the land in our state that's not Federally protected.
