States Cancelling Fed’s Unemployment Pay Boost to Get Workers Back
A friend of mine owns his own business and is having a very hard time getting his workers to come back since they can make more money staying at home and collecting unemployment. Restaurants here in the Tri-Cities are struggling due to a shortage of workers for the same reason. NOW HIRING signs are popping up everywhere.
Montana has said NO MORE to the federal unemployment boost to get workers back into their jobs. Will Washington, Oregon, and Idaho quickly follow? I totally understand that there are several sides to this deal. Many companies should pay their workers more, while many companies simply can't. Those that are struggling in their regular jobs are enjoying life a little more with the extra cash. Others are simply working the system and getting everything they can. Some folks think that those who have not missed a day of work during the pandemic should receive a bonus. No matter where you stand, the bottom line is simple: Working keeps all the wheels greased and rolling.
Montana is ending its participation in the federal unemployment program that gives people extra weekly unemployment benefit payments as the state struggles with a worker shortage
