Adrian Lopez may only be a sophomore in high school, but this young art student shows promise beyond his years.

Lopez’s colorful drawings light up the hallways of Richland High School with an entire wall dedicated to his stylized, flashy artwork.

Lopez said his favorite medium is working with color pastels, although he does dabble in other types of art including watercolor paintings.

He said he loves everything about making art.

“I want to eventually make a career out of it,” he said. “I want to go to college for graphic design and commercial art.”

Lopez said he started taking art classes in middle school, but it wasn’t until high school that he really started taking it seriously.

As for what he loves to draw the most, Lopez said his favorite things are popular musicians from the 70s, 80s and 90s and people who have made history.

He is currently working on a project surrounding Jimi Hendrix. The drawing portrays a colorful Seattleite in his prime with rainbow flames projecting from his mass of hair.

Lopez said he entered an art contest last year and plans to enter more this year.
