Kennewick Driver and Passenger Lucky To Be Alive After Wreck
A Kennewick driver and their passenger are lucky to be alive after a late-night crash on Columbia Drive.
Kennewick Police reported the incident on their Facebook page and described the accident.
It looks like the driver is under investigation for driving under the influence and has been arrested.
Here is the report filed by the Kennewick Police Department:
On 04/21/21 just before midnight, a vehicle had collided with a large sign in the 400 block of E Columbia Dr. It was reported that the driver may have been exceeding 100 mph. The driver, 39-year-old Shannon Leader, attempted to negotiate a corner while still at this high rate of speed. Tire marks show that Leader lost control, hitting curbs and shrubbery. Completely out of control, Leader and her passenger collided with the large steel pole housing the sign. An investigation ensued and Leader was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Leader and her passenger both required non-life-threatening medical treatment. After a search warrant was approved, a legal blood draw was obtained and sent to the State Laboratory to be tested. Leader was booked into the Benton County Jail for DUI and Vehicular Assault.
it's another reminder that drinking and driving don't pay. First, the car is totaled and next the fines and court costs are going to be outrageous. In this day of Uber and Lyft, it's just not worth drinking and driving. You can read more details about the accident here.
