Greyhound Offers Up Free Tickets For Runaways

Over the last few months, we've seen several disheartening articles of teen suicides and amber alerts of missing children here in the Columbia Basin and now Greyhound Bus Lines are stepping up to offer free bus tickets to runaways.

Being a parent with a missing child is scary enough but with the extra added help from Greyhound, it can ease that anxiety. Greyhound has teamed up with National Runaway Safeline to help reunite kids and parents with free bus tickets.

Here is how it works according to the official greyhound.com website:

We work with the National Runaway Safeline to make sure runaway kids have a ticket home to get back to their families or legal guardians. To be eligible for a Greyhound ticket home, the child has to call the NRS helpline, be between 12 and 21 years old, be named on a runaway report, and be willing to be reunited with their family (and vice versa). Home Free can only be used on two occasions by the same person. We also provide a free ticket for the parent or legal guardian if the young person is under the age of 15.

The call is free and it's a good number to have just in case.

My brothers and sisters ran away several times when we were kids and I remember my brother and sister both getting themselves into a bit of trouble on the streets.

It's not worth it in this volatile social media world to be estranged and far away from home. I like that Greyhound is doing some good with their Home Free Program.
