Parmalee geared up for the release of their latest single, "Roots," with a very special homecoming gig in their home state of North Carolina, and they're sharing footage of that once-in-a-lifetime show exclusively with Taste of Country readers.

The band scored a big breakout success with their debut album, Feels Like Carolina, which landed hit singles with "Carolina," "Close Your Eyes" and "Already Callin' You Mine." "Roots" is the lead single from the group's forthcoming sophomore studio album, and it shows a much more introspective side of the group, with a lyric about always staying connected to where you're from.

The band of brothers and longtime friends led up to the single release with a performance at their alma mater, East Carolina University, at the 8,000-seat Minges Coliseum on Nov. 21, 2015, just a stone's throw from the barn in Parmalee, N.C. where they first performed together. The 2016 ACM New Vocal Duo/Group of the Year nominees called the event the Feels Like Carolina Homecoming.

“It was a life-long dream of ours to play Minges Coliseum. What a homecoming!” says singer Matt Thomas. “Standing on that stage and looking up at thousands of fans, friends, family and folks from the community that supported us since we started out — literally playing for a handful of people in our friend’s barn. It was a full-circle moment for us. It made it realize how far we’ve come and how much we appreciate the people that have lifted us up throughout the years.”

It's that strong community of friends and fans that inspired Parmalee to record "Roots," which is available at all digital retailers on April 29 and impacts country radio on May 2.

"It's about where you come from and all the things that make you you. Those things always stay with you throughout life, and no matter how hard you might try, you can't outrun them," Thomas adds. "We knew that 'Roots' was a song that people from all walks of life needed to hear, whether you were raised in the city or in the country."
