There used to be a little sentence on the labels of raw meat stating, "Raised in Texas," or "Raised in Oklahoma" -- but it's gone and the reason is really frustrating!

The reason is people bought less beef if it said, "Raised in Canada," or "Raised in Mexico."

That's right, meat packers got upset that they made less money when people preferred to Buy American or Eat Local!

Actually, it's not that simple. When we bought less meat from Canada and Mexico, it violated trade agreements we have with those countries. They were threatening to stop importing our agricultural goods if we didn't remove the labeling. So rather than helping local ranchers, the practice risked harming local farmers.
