Brad Paisley made an appearance on ‘South Park’ Wednesday night (April 25) — sort of. Paisley’s voice was intertwined with a cartoon version of himself, and it was about as hilarious as you would imagine.
As we reported earlier, Garth Brooks is headed up to Canada later this year to take part in the Calgary Stampede music festival, which will last from July 6 to July 15. Brooks will be bringing his show to the Calgary audience on July 12, and no sooner had tickets for his show gone on sale Saturday than they were gone. In just 58 seconds, according to the Calgary Herald, every single one of the 15,322 tickets for Brooks’ show had been purchased.
We have to raise a glass to Blake Shelton today, as he just hit No. 1 with his single ‘Drink on It,’ marking the ACM and CMA Male Vocalist of the Year’s sixth consecutive No. 1 single. The song is Shelton’s 11th ever to hit No.1 on the charts.
Lady Antebellum are about to jump into the summer leg of their Own the Night World Tour, and though the second half of the tour won’t officially kick off until May 3 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, the trio has already sold more than 750,000 tickets for the tour as a whole. This may come as no surprise to fans who have watched Lady A shoot quickly to the top, but Dave Haywood says it’s continually exciting for him and his bandmates.
This week, country stars Justin Moore and Miranda Lambert tweeted their disapproval for Ashton Kutcher’s dress and performance at last weekend’s ACM Awards. And while Lambert primarily mentioned that she thought Kutcher may have been poking fun rather than coming at the country genre in sincerity, Moore was quite a bit more candid with his thoughts, ending with, “I don’t care for people making a mockery of the way country artists’ dress.”
Nashville’s Belmont University can boast quite a number of now-famous alums in the country music world, including Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, LeAnn Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Julie Roberts and Sarah Buxton for starters. And since the university is the place where so many of these artists got a start in music, they don’t often forget to go back and thank their alma mater when that music career finally pays off.
Billboard released their official ‘Music’s Top Money Makers 2012‘ list yesterday (March 9) and sitting atop the celebrity-packed lineup was none other than country pop princess Taylor Swift. With a mind-boggling $35 million takeaway from 2011, Swift is sitting pretty just above some huge names — U2 came in second with $32 million — due primarily to her ‘Speak Now’ record and the accompanying world tour.
Earlier this week, Eric Church and his band set out to film a video for Church’s ‘Springsteen,’ the third single from his Grammy-nominated record, ‘Chief.’ The country hitmaker officially released the single at the beginning of this year, and now he’s working on the music video to accompany it. But for the filming, he didn’t block off Broadway in Nashville or rent out the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. In fact, according to CMTT, Church was spotted shooting the video in a neighborhood setting in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
One of the most awe-inspiring stories we’ve seen in a long time continues to get better and better. After New Jersey senior Kevin McGuire, who is currently fighting cancer for the second time, asked Taylor Swift to be his prom date, the country superstar came back with a shocking invitation, asking to take McGuire to the ACMs with her in April. In the video below, CBS Philly captured the 18-year-old’s reaction when he heard the news from his hospital bed at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
In August, Taste of Country reported that a New York woman had been arrested after a Darien Lake, N.Y. Rascal Flatts show for striking another person in the face while holding her iPhone, which caused lacerations to the victim’s face. Now, six months later, 33-year-old Carolyn Marie Smith has filed a claim against the Genesee Country Sheriff’s Office stating that she was the victim of a false arrest.
NBC’s hit musical drama ‘Smash’ tells the story of what it takes to make it in a Broadway show, and while country music is in a different genre altogether, the show and its stars have been giving some pretty big nods to the sound. Last Monday (Feb. 13), we saw actress Megan Hilty’s character Ivy offer up a slowed-down cover of Carrie Underwood‘s ‘Crazy Dreams.’ Tonight, according to mjsbigblog, we can expect to see another star performing a karaoke version of Gretchen Wilson‘s ‘Redneck Woman.’
