I plan to take a couple family road trips this summer. We all love vacationing, but sometimes those hours in the car aren't pleasant. Here are 5 ideas to make the trip better (at least for you).

  • 1

    Download podcasts or audio books

If you don't know what's good, just check the "most popular" lists.

  • 2

Stand up comedy (via podcast or CD)

If you've never purchased a "comedy album" a road trip is the perfect time to start. Find a family-friendly comedian or someone you'd like and plug in the earphones.

  • 3

Make a playlist of songs your family loves to sing

You don't have to include "Frozen" if you don't want to, but maybe some Billy Joel or other 1970s rock, your favorite 1980s... sing your hearts out!

  • 4

    Learn phrases in another language

Buy one of those CDs to study a language, then when you get to your destination find a restaurant from that country and practice what you learned!

  • 5

Go to Hastings and rent 10 old movies for 50 cents each

Movie marathons are my favorite way to enjoy a long drive.
