Will Tri-Cities Have a Record Heat Repeat this Summer?
According to the University of Washington Climate Outlook page and the National Weather Service Climate Prediction data, the probability of cooler temperatures is high for the Pacific Northwest this April through June. The summer months appear to be a tossup - it could be hellishly hot again or more normal.
Cooler Temps Expected this Spring in Tri-Cities
Typically, the weather in Tri-Cities does its own thing (at least it seems that way) it's like we're an entirely separate entity from every other area in the PNW. When it's cold down the highway in Yakima, it's blistering hot in the TRI, and so on. But this year, things will likely be different as the La Nina advisory that was issued in October will continue deep into the spring, this means cooler than normal temps statewide and more precipitation on the west side of Washington and Oregon. I'll take it!
Summer Temps in Tri-Cities Could Be Record-Setting Again
Looking ahead to the summer months, La Nina will subside and this will bring us back to normal or above-normal temps in the Mid-Columbia - so, it's going to be hot (surprise!). Let's hope it doesn't reach 120 degrees like it did in the summer of 2021 - which is highly unlikely.
Whatever the weather, the spring and summer of 2022 will be vibrant and active with events and concerts, and having cooler temps will make those activities even more enjoyable. So, take advantage of our parks, our forests, and waterways and get outdoors and breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the freedoms our country affords each of us.
