Yes, the equipment of any trade is often referred to as a toy. Like when we get a new mic processor, everyone in the studio is excited about new toys! So I get the elation the Pasco Police have right now with the addition of some new "Conductive Energy Weapons" or Tasers.

And let's be honest...'Cops' episodes like "Tased and Confused" were among the best reality TV shows in the world (long before reality TV was even a thing). There's so much satisfaction in seeing a loud-mouthed bad guy go toes up and shut up after a good tasing.

NEW TOYS: Last Wednesday’s training day was the A-Squads’ turn to get an upgraded TASER-brand conductive-energy weapon...

So how do tasers work? Well, it's the voltage, not the amperage. Lots of amps can kill you. Lots of volts are just fun to watch on bad guys. And in the little hand-held tasers, it's amazing how many volts are created from a little 9v battery. It's important to know the difference between a stun gun and a taser. For self-protection, wouldn't you rather shoot the voltage probes at your attacker rather than have to be in such close contact that you have to touch them?
