According to Space.com:

The solar flare, the second most powerful eruption from the sun this year, sparked a strong geomagnetic storm that should supercharge the northern lights, and could make them visible from as far south as New York, Idaho, Illinois, Oregon, Maryland, and Nevada, said C. Alex Young, NASA's associate director for science at the Heliophysics Division of the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

I know my husband is a huge fan. Jeff has three telescopes and loves to look at the moon and point out Saturn to me. I've seen the moon many times through a telescope, and it is pretty cool.

Half the fun of Saturday night for me is Jeff's fascination for the event. I can hardly wait.

Are you planning to view the northern lights Saturday night? I don't believe it's all that common. Most advise that viewing is best away from city lights, after midnight.
