McDonald’s in Hand, Running to Catch Bus, Mother & Teen Hit on Clearwater
Ever been late enough to do something foolish? A mother and her teen daughter were hit by a red SUV in the middle of Clearwater Avenue Wednesday morning rushing to catch the bus.
The two had food bags and jackets in hand as they ran near the intersection with Columbia Center Boulevard. Police say the driver was not impaired -- just didn't stop in time.
At first the mother and daughter appeared seriously injured, but local media say they are conscious and stable in a local hospital.
Clearwater was shut down for a couple of hours near N. Colorado Street as an investigation took place. Kennewick police said this was a major incident because all pedestrian-vehicle collisions are serious, and this involved two people on a major thoroughfare.
Police said because the women were crossing at an intersection it was not technically illegal even though a crosswalk was not marked.
