A man was shot last night and killed after he attacked Kennewick Police last night near 10th and Olympia.

Here are the details of the incident from a press release from the Kennewick Police Department -

KPD Dispatch received a call of a male walking north on Olympia with a sword and appeared he was trying to conceal the weapon with a newspaper.

The caller advised the male was alone.

At about 6:40 pm officers arrived on scene made contact with the male.  As one of the officers exited his vehicle to contact the male, the suspect male rushed at the officer and struck him in the head with the sword causing an injury.

As this was occurring the second officer had already arrived on scene and was exiting his vehicle as well.  The injured officer was able to back up and both officers drew their weapons and fired at the suspect.

Medical aid was administered to both the officer and suspect at the scene.   At about 6:41 pm an officer on scene advised that an officer was injured and that the suspect was injured as well.

The officer received medical treatment at TRIOS and was released. The suspect male passed away at TRIOS.  The names of the officers and suspect are being withheld until a complete investigation is completed by SIU.

I'm not sure carrying a sword around is illegal but when you attack the police, you are bound to get swift action.
