Kennewick Police traveled to Vancouver to arrest a woman on identity theft and to search for and retrieve a $45,000 ATV the suspect fraudulently bought using a false ID.

A Can-Am ATV was the center of an investigation that led Kennewick Police to Vancouver Washington to arrest Michelle Kennedy after she attempted to purchase an RV.

This is the report of the incident as filed by the Kennewick Police Department:

On 4-6-2021 at about 3:00 PM, a suspect female entered a business in the 3300 block of W 19th and used a false ID and fraudulent means to "purchase" a Can-Am ATV valued at about $45,700. It was towed by a white pick-up hooked up to a trailer. The KPD Criminal Investigation Detectives took over the investigation.

The business sent pictures of the female, suspect vehicle, and stolen vehicle to other similar businesses in the greater regional area.

Within a couple of days, the same female, who was recognized from the sent-out bulletin, attempted to purchase an RV in the Vancouver, WA area. Vancouver Police Department was called but the female fled prior to their arrival.

Vancouver PD investigators eventually were able to locate the female and the same pickup truck.

The female was identified as Michelle Kennedy (44). She was eventually arrested and booked into jail for felony crimes and then bailed out.

Kennedy then made arrangements to retrieve property that was held on to by Vancouver PD after serving a warrant on the pickup truck, which turned out to be stolen.

When she arrived at Vancouver PD to pick up the property on 4-29-2021, two Kennewick PD detectives, who had driven to Vancouver, arrested her for Identity Theft 1st Degree and Auto Theft. She was then transported back to Kennewick and booked into the Benton County Jail.

Kennewick Police have been unable to locate the ATV and are asking anyone who might have information concerning this theft to contact the KPD.
