High-Speed Chase Ends in 2nd Death in TC Officer Custody
Just a day after a man died in Richland police custody following a domestic call, another Tri-City area resident has died.
After a high speed chase with Washington State Patrol, the suspect, in a stolen car, stopped near Prosser in an orchard.
Officers had seen a pistol in his hand while he had been driving. The man, feeling suicidal and agitated, negotiated with Benton County deputies and Tri-City SWAT.
Officers moved in to arrest him. When met with resistance from the 54 year-old Grandview man, they tased him.
While in police custody, the suspect quit breathing. He was rushed to an ambulance, where he died.
Among items in the suspect's car, police found the pistol and a meth pipe.
