Once again political correctness is treading on tradition and school pride. This past week the Washington State Department of Education passed a resolution  that urges districts to stop using Native American mascots. The good news is that the Board Of Education does have the authority to force schools to make the change from native american mascots. The bad news is that 10 schools in the past decade have given up their mascots. There are about 50 schools that still have native american mascots including our Kamiakin Braves.

A Education Board member was quoted as saying "They are in the business of education students and we need to remove any barrier that will impede student success".

The Oregon Board of Education voted in May to ban all native american mascots and schools there have 5 years to comply. There are about eight schools in Oregon that are effected.
