Why in the world would you want to go to the West Richland Police Department Citizens Academy?

Is this just for younger folks who want to eventually become police officers or can it be just for a curious citizen?

Starting April 7th through May 26th oh, the West Richland Police Department Citizens Academy will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. The graduation ceremony will be on June 2nd.

You will learn about Patrol procedures, K-9 operations, gang and Drug investigations, use of force, firearms, and tours of the West Richland Police Department. You'll also get to explore the Benton County Jail and Dispatch Center.

The first thing I thought of when I read this is what exactly is this for?  WRPD answered quickly by saying it's really to understand the scope of operations and responsibilities of the police department and what your tax dollars are paying for. I've always wanted to be a cop and I think this is a great idea!
