Trump Wants Less Money for Hanford Waste Cleanup
2020 could see a big change for the Hanford site.
The Trump administration has proposed a new budget that would cut $416 million from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. That's around 16% of the current budget.
This would drop the budget from $2.5 billion to $2.1 billion.
The Richland Operations Office would see the biggest cuts. About 25% of its $954 million budget would be trimmed.
The Office of River protection would also see a 12% cut in its budget.
Recently, it was revealed the amount of of cleanup costs for the Hanford site was in the hundreds of billions.
At worst, remaining cleanup could cost over $600 billion.
