Tri-Cities Skies Clearing for Tonight’s Orionid Meteor Shower!!
Tonight and tomorrow (10/20 and 10/21) you'll be able to see one of the year's best space shows --the peak of the Orionid meteor shower. The Orionids --which are fragments from the famous Halley's Comet-- should be visible both tonight and tomorrow. USA Today says the best viewing will be between midnight and dawn.
Meteors will emanate from the eastern horizon and will streak across the entire sky, visible from anywhere on Earth. By dawn, they should be high in the Southern sky.
If you can get to an area without a lot of light pollution, people looking up at the darkest skies may see a maximum of 10 to 15 meteors per hour. These meteors are some of the fastest and brightest because the Earth is hitting the stream of particles almost head-on.
Happy gazing!!
