When Jorge Garcia pointed a gun at the head of Chiloe Chevernell this morning she fled her Kennewick apartment in only her underwear. Garcia then took 24-year-old resident Gloria Calderon captive during a seven-hour standoff with the SWAT Team.

It is not clear how Garcia, 33, knew Chevernell or Calderon.

Police arrived at the apartment building near 1800 W. and 21st Avenue after 7 a.m. Friday morning. Garcia barricaded the doors and created a hostage situation with Calderon. He eventually allowed her to leave but would not come out himself.

The apartment complex residents were evacuated to Canyon View Elementary nearby.

Eventually gas was inserted through the windows but Garcia still refused to surrender.

Around 2:15 p.m. the SWAT Team entered the apartment and Garcia was taken into custody.

He was charged with two counts of Assault in the 1st Degree.
