Winter Storm Warning: 10-20″ of Snow Expected in the Cascades
• Closure of State Route 20 North Cascades Highway-Reopening Date Uncertain
With heavy snow falling in the PNW, travel is becoming increasingly difficult. In some cases, roads are shut down. The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Winter Storm Warning and watches in effect through Monday night.
State Route 20 North Cascades Highway is shut down. WSDOT closed the highway between Ross Dam Trailhead (milepost 134) on the west side and Silver Star gate (milepost 171) on the east side.
There is no estimated time of reopening the highway.
Maintenance and avalance crews are secheduled to reassess conditions on Monday, November 18th. They could potentially clear and reopen that section. However, reopening is uncertain.
Road closure updates are posted on the Washington State Department of Transportation website real-time travel map and on the mountain passes page.
The National Weather Service advises delaying all travel through the Cascade passes.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
