I go to Seaside, Oregon every year. Never have I seen something quite like this.

This week, a 9-foot female thresher shark found herself on the shores of the beach. She did not survive, but it appears the Seaside Aquarium has recovered the shark for students to perform necropsies. Thresher sharks grow to about 20 feet, so this female was likely young. They are not a threat to humans.

The aquarium says humpback whales have been spotted in the mouth of the Columbia River this year.
