Seen the Netflix ‘We Can’t Process Your Payment’ Email Scam?

Over the last number of months, I have received an occasional (probably 6-7) emails from Netflix, saying they cannot confirm my payment method. They've been coming probably one or two a month.

One of the main reasons I have not really looked at that email is because I figure if it were in jeopardy or an issue, our service would have gone away.  And two, because it's not THAT big a deal.  Lose a service? Can always sign up again.

But Wednesday, I heard on the radio something that made me feel better about NOT clicking and following directions.

Nationally syndicated talk show host Glenn Beck referenced the EXACT same kind of email I had gotten, when he was talking about Life Lock ID protection services. He was jokingly vamping about the email he got, saying they told him they couldn't verify his payment method.  He said many people panic, click on the links and try to find out what's going on.   Then he mentioned it's a scam.

And apparently Netflix agrees. They have this information posted on a special section of their site:

"Did you receive an email or text (SMS) requesting your Netflix username, password, or payment method? If so, it probably did not come from us. Here are some tips to identify and handle suspicious emails or texts and keep your account safe."

One way to verify that your payment methods are NOT in jeopardy like this, is when you receive any kind of similar email about a service you're paying for, wait and watch to see if the service gets discontinued. IF it does, then contact the official vendor for details. We still have Netflix, so we are good.
