Halloween is more than three weeks away, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are here to stay way beyond that and into 2019 given America's voracious appetite for the elixir.

Whether you like them or not, PSLs are making a lot of money. Time magazine says prices vary by location, but a conservative estimate says the drinks have generated some $1.4 billion for Starbucks since it's 2018 roll out in August, the earliest in the chain's 15 year PSL run of fun.

Data from the financial services company Square shows Oregon is the #1 State in the Union for PSL consumption. Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa and North Dakota round out the top five. The numbers are adjusted to account for state population.

If you imagined the numbers would be good in Vermont and Maine where it's all about fall foliage and a tasty beverage to go with the viewing, you'd be wrong. Surprisingly, those states are at the bottom of PSL consumption.

 

And pumpkin spice is not just for lattes anymore. In fact, it's just third on the money maker list. How about dog food?

Seriously.

Almost $13 million in profit from pumpkin spice dog food can be documented in 2017.

The most popular pumpkin spice items were pie filling, which saw nearly $135 million in sales; cream, with about $48 million; and coffee, with roughly $33 million.

Starbucks says the PSL is the company’s top-selling seasonal beverage of all time, available in more than 50 countries and selling more than $350 million over the past 15 years. It even has its own 26,000-plus Facebook fan group.
