A cougar was killed in Oregon after two people shot at it multiple times.

According to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place on Sunday, July 17th, after several people called in shots fired in the area of Deschutes River Woods. Deputies found the two people who encountered the cougar.

Deputies say the cougar was seen killing a deer earlier in the morning near the neighborhood. The neighbors were near the dead deer when they saw the cougar in bushes about 10 feet away. The cougar was reportedly acting "aggressive," so both shot at it. A bullet ricocheted into a home nearby, causing damage to the home. The two shooters were cited for criminal mischief.

Where did the cougar go?

The cougar was later seen under a backyard porch. The cat escaped through yards in the neighborhood and Deputies lost track of the animal

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife was called to the scene.

Due to the safety concerns of a large number of people in the area, it was necessary to locate the cougar. The animal was eventually tracked to a location near another residence. According to the Sheriff's Office, the large cat was euthanized.
