My Favorite Rechargeable Power Outage and Camp Lanterns
All it takes is that one big tree (and a big wind) to knock out power to a whole neighborhood. And believe me, after the last wind storm, I had my candles and my favorite rechargeable lamps ready to go. My main go-to lamp is made by Mossy Oak. It's a flashlight/lantern combo, and uses the same charging cord that most android phones were using before they went USB-C. So if you can't locate the charging cord it came with, I have plenty laying around. This one was a gift at a family White Elephant Christmas exchange, but there was a $20 limit, so I'm guessing about that. It's super bright on the brightest setting and lasts hours on a charge.
My next favorite looks like an old-fashioned Coleman lantern. That's probably why I bought it...camping memories. But no fuel required here. And no fussing with replacing that darned mantle! You can load the battery cartridge it comes with (4-D cells) or buy the optional rechargeable battery pack. Believe me, you don't want to have to put 4 brand new D batteries in every time it dies out, so the rechargeable pack is worth it. This one is a little more expensive at $30 and then I ordered the rechargeable insert on Amazon (shown below).
I remember one time when our power went out, I had these two lanterns on their brightest settings and a few candles lit. Our home was so well lit that the neighbors across the street came over wondering how we had power and they didn't!
