John Aylward was a long-time resident of Seattle and was born in Seattle on November 7th, 1946. Aylward was born and raised in Seattle and attended Garfield High School.

Aylward graduated from the University Of Washington's Professional Actor's Training Program and was soon doing local theater productions.

He founded Seattle's Empty Space Theater in 1973 and was a member of the Seattle Repertory Theater.

Aylward went on to great success and became a great character actor in several films and TV series. He's one of those actors that you'd see on the screen and you'd recognize him instantly even if you didn't know his name.

John Aylward would find fame as Dr. Donald Anspaugh on the hit TV series ER and again on the West Wing TV series as Barry Goodwin.
