What If Washington State Was in the Game of Thrones: Where Would We Be Located in Westeros?

If Washington was in Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, where in Westeros would it be?

The finale of House of the Dragon Season 2 has come and gone and some of us are still asking, "Where's the rest of it?" And by people, I mean ME.

The ending left me hanging, wondering why it felt like I needed at least two more episodes for this season so that I could feel satisfied. It felt like eating a fast-food meal, only to be starving less than an hour later! Did you get that feeling, too?

I was so disappointed that we have to wait until 2026 for the next set of HOTD episodes that I decided to keep the dream alive by creating my own maps, set in the state where I live.

There are a few geographical possibilities here in The Evergreen State that I think would fit the locations and terrains of Westeros. Come along for the (dragon) ride and see if you agree with me!

Washington has about four notably different terrains: desert, coastal/rainforest, mountainous, valley, and plateau.

I asked AI to help me envision a world where Washington state is Westeros, and it did not disappoint!

NORTH OF WESTEROS

Some of the AI generated images seemed to combine the regions of Western and Central Washington to make up one giant village, which kind of reminds me of King's Landing. They also put The Wall across the land beyond the sea.

ACROSS THE NARROW SEA

I would make the San Juan Islands part of Essos, since that's where the Triarchy and pirates like to hang out, and it is not considered part of Westeros.

WINTERFELL

That's easy; the Cascades Mountain range in Central and Western Washington would be Winterfell!

KING'S LANDING

A city built on the edge of Blackwater Bay is quite fitting for the setting of Seattle. I think the Space Needle would be a great landmark in lieu of a castle. Okay, there can be both!

I added some unexpected elements to this AI generated map just to amuse myself.

My map does not contain Oregon and suggests for villagers to not go to Idaho, lest they be eaten by wild, untamed dragons. 

I've also included helpful directional map elements, including a 'bridge to Canada', as well as a warning sign pointing which way the White Walkers are. 

THE WALL

(Can they see Russia from our house?) No, The Wall should not be set in Alaska, just because it's filled with glaciers and lots of snow. In my mind, The Wall should be set in White Pass, Washington, home of the White Pass Winter Carnival with tons of sculpted ice castles!

Well, that was fun. Time for me to do another rewatch of all eight seasons of Game of Thrones!
