Human's Best Friend

My first best friend in this world was my parent's German Shepherd. His name was King. My mom has told me stories about how when I was a toddler, she asked my dad to make King an outside dog because she though he was stealing my sipppy cup of milk and juice.

Turns out, one day, she caught me giving King some of my juice. She said I kept running outside to share my sippy cup because I had just wanted King to have something to drink, too. (How precious is that story?!) When King died, our whole family was devastated. That's how much dogs mean to us. They do become part of our family!

Times were different in the 70s and 80s. We only brought our dogs along in the back of truck beds and on vacation in the back of the station wagon. Nowaways, I see people taking their dogs along with them everywhere, from breweries to hikes, on airplanes, to the grocery store, and even the mall.

The other day, I heard some people negatively making fun of those who have emotional support animals. It ticked me off! There are many instances where an abandoned or neglected dog gets rescued and ends up becoming giving purpose to many of us who are recuperating from emotional and physical trauma. I don't know why it works out this way between humans and dogs (and other pets), but I'm very thankful for it!

My 12-year-old daughter has been begging me to adopt a St. Bernard dog for our small family of 3 (there's me, the kiddo, and our sweet black rescue kitty named Fluffy). One time, she told me that she wants us to have 30 dogs or more. Chile, please! Could you just imagine what that would be like?

"Oh, sweetheart, I would if I could," is all I can say to her. I desperately want to adopt a dog, too, but we've already reached the max limit of pets allowed by our apartment manager.

Enough of my doggy tales (tails), let's look at the top favorite dog breeds of the Pacific Northwest.
