A Hanford Nuclear Site waste truck caught fire yesterday and luckily no one was harmed in the incident.

A truck on the Hanford Nuclear site outside Richland burst into flames yesterday according to a report from the Department of Energy on the official Hanford site.

The DOE reports that no one was harmed in the fire and the truck that not transporting any radioactive materials.

Here are details of the incident as posted on the Hanford site website:

The One Hanford team ensured a safe and quick response to a vehicle fire in the 200 east area of the site this morning, and no one was hurt.

The engine compartment of a truck loaded with an empty container from the Site’s Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility caught fire near the Effluent Treatment Facility.

The driver was not hurt, and the Hanford Fire Department quickly put out the fire.
The empty container was not exposed to the fire and is used to haul non-radiological materials, like construction debris.

The good news is that the driver is ok and outside of the truck being damaged, nothing else was harmed.

The fire took place right in the center of the 580 square mile site which allowed the Hanford Fire Department team to easily put out the fire quickly and safely.
