Hey Tri-Cities, when do you "undeck" your halls?

When it comes to taking down Christmas decorations, I've had my share of calendar variety. There have been some years that at 12:01 p.m. Christmas Day, that's it, everyone falls in and every scrap of Christmas is taken down, boxed up and will not to be touched until sometime late the next year.

However it can be very random. One year, the house was finally de-holidazed near the end of a Super Bowl Sunday in late January, another year I had Christmas lights still up along an extensive chain link fence for so long that my girlfriend pranked me on April Fools Day with a letter she "found" near the front door from my "concerned neighbors" about the lights, still up on the fence, were a severe eyesore and it was diminishing property values. It got my blood boiling so bad, she caved in on the joke after about 10 seconds, afraid I was going to suffer a stroke or have a freakin' heart attack on the spot.

This year, with COVID, the plan was to have a real tree, but like many, it just didn't turn out that way we hoped it would.

With that said, here's the breakdown of where to properly dispose your Christmas trees, 2020, across the greater Columbia Basin area. Remember to not leave any decorations of any kind on the tree.

Richland

Leave your tree out for free curbside pick-up between January 4th - January 15th. Trees taller than six feet must be cut in half. Trees may also be brought to the Horn Rapids Landfill at 3102 Twin Bridges Rd. Monday-Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Kennewick

Waste Management customers can bring their trees to the Kennewick Transfer Station located at 2627 S. Ely St. through the end of January.

Pasco

Drop off your tree at Big Cross near the intersection  of Road 36 and Argent Rd. until January 23rd, free of charge. Pasco Basin Disposal is also collecting trees for free during their weekly garbage pick-up.

West Richland/Benton City/Benton County

Ed's Disposal Inc. will collect trees left out on the curb during their weekly garbage pick-up.
