It's not your imagination, Facebook and Instagram are down but it's not just the Tri-Cities but worldwide.

It got me thinking about how dependent we've become on social media. I'm able to write and post this article on to our website and app but that's about as far as it'll get.

If you are worried that it's an area outage, don't fret. Facebook has already released a statement concerning the outage.

Andy Stone, Communications Director for Facebook issued the following tweet:

We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

If you've been trying to access Facebook, Instagram, or Whatsapp, it will still load but you'll notice that the postings are a few days old. I believe the newest posting I have from Facebook is from yesterday at 9:21 PM. You might still be getting an error message and you might have to wait a while before the platforms are restored

At the radio station, I can still write an article but can't post it to any of the 4-owned Facebook platforms.

According to Andy Stone, Communications Director for Facebook says that something with Facebook's DNS records could be causing the issue. Domain Name Services were rerouted from the world routing tables and Facebook is still trying to restore services.

The one platform that is still up and running is Twitter and people are enjoying all the attention on Twitter (if only for a bit) and Twitter's response was the best ever: hello literally everyone

The returns Tweets have been hilarious.
