If you love the outdoors and working with the public - great news - Washington State Parks is hiring! There are numerous permanent Park Ranger 1 positions and seasonal openings across the state.

So, just what does a Park Ranger 1 do? If hired, you will be responsible to protect, preserve and enhance the state's parks and natural resources, while at the same time making sure park visitors are safe. You will also be a limited-commission law enforcement officer, which means you will be issuing non-traffic civil infraction notices. The Ranger 1 also oversees the daily operations and maintenance of the park. The Ranger 1 position is just the beginning of a career as a full-fledged park ranger and averages a monthly salary of $3500 to $4500.

So what are you waiting for? Applications are being accepted now until they're filled, but hurry you have until January 29th to submit your materials. If you're hired the state will train you - for free! You'll have to pass a mandatory one-week training in mid-May. Once completed you will have a certification in defensive tactics, first aid and CPR. You'll learn radio communication, legal information related to the job and other duties of a Park Ranger 1.

Some of the current opening locations include: Mt. Spokane, Lincoln Rock, and Klickitat Trail. You must be 21 years old, have high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license and 2-years of college. Bilingual is a plus but not a disqualifier.
