American Cancer Society Relay For Life Is This Friday & Saturday! Support American Cancer Society
This Friday starting at 6pm at the Southridge High School track complex is the Columbia River Relay For Life! Always proud to be a part of this great fundraising event that benefits the American Cancer Society.
Come on out and watch the events and make a donation or support a team! here is a schedule of events that will be going on Friday night until 9am Saturday Morning!
6:00 pm – Opening Ceremony
After the initial ceremony, the Survivor Lap (first lap) is reserved for cancer survivors and those who have acted as their caregivers. All others line the track to show their support as the survivors go by. Followed immediately by the Team Lap, with all team members. The Survivor Dinner, free to all survivors/caregivers, will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Relay Contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. (Male participants will be dressed up in female pageant garb and compete for the title of Mr. Relay. Contestants also go out into the crowd and raise money.)
10:00 pm – Luminaria Ceremony (White luminaria bags purchased in memory of those lost to cancer or in honor of survivors are placed on the inside of the track. Bags have sand/candles in them, and some are decorated by family and friends. The candles are lit as the ceremony begins. Non-dedicated bags will be placed in the bleachers and lit to spell out the word “HOPE,” which is what the event is about - hope that through funded research, a cure will be found.”
Entertainment begins at 5:00 pm on the Relay Stage and continues through the night to the next day. Opening band is Tricities Big Band, followed by the Mr. Relay contest, Mystic Mirage Belly Dancers, and Big Daddy and the Nightcrawlers will perform at 9:00 p.m. There will also be entertainment through the midnight hours into the next day with the Diamond Ridge Cloggers, Zumba, Sparks Family Band, and a Midnight Movie.
Games/Activities: All day and all night walkers are encouraged to show their spirit and win prizes (hokey pokey lap, chicken dance lap, limbo lap, etc.). Activities will also be set up for kids.
SATURDAY
Breakfast at the Relay Café begins at 6:00 am.
9:00 a.m. – Closing Ceremony and Awards (Various awards will be given to recognize efforts to support the Relay.)
