Threat “Joke” Lands Sunnyside Student in Jail
Sunnyside Police are finishing up an investigation into what was called an 'electronic' threat against the High School.
Monday, police were alerted by school officials about a threat to shoot up the school. After looking into it, the threat was from a 15-year-old student who had sent it to a classmate and friend. They told police it was a "joke" and not intended for publication, but apparently the friend was concerned enough that they alerted authorities and the school.
The student was arrested on Felony Harassment Charges, and booked into the Yakima County Detention Center, pending a court appearance.
Law enforcement officials everywhere stress that such threats, even if just meant in jest, are taken seriously and can land the person in jail and facing charges.
