A middle school student saw a kid with a gun and acted fast. Now he's a hero.

Granite Falls is close to Everett, WA in the Puget Sound area.

Police say the gun was jammed or broken. The 12 year old could not have hurt anyone with it. He likely brought it to show someone or maybe use as a threat. That kid is not being questioned at a juvenile detention facility.

The hero was honored at a school assembly where administration stressed the importance of reporting threats -- or even potential threats -- to trusted adults.

This news followed unconfirmed reports earlier in the week of young men walking near a school with rifles in Portland. Police could never find the men and believe they may have just been airsoft guns.
