On Friday we told about how the Richland School District issued a statement summarizing what it does to protect students. On Facebook, a Richland parent responded to that story by complaining that their child's teacher had talked to them about the shooting. The parent thought that was inappropriate -- it was the parent's job to decide how, or if, they share the sad news with the child.
We noticed other parents discussing this issue on Facebook and we got curious: how many of you had this discussion on Friday or over the weekend?

My personal opinion is it's usually OK because the teacher is an expert. If they think the age of the children in their class is old enough, then I trust them. That said, we didn't discuss it with our child because he's only five. Then again, child experts say that's too young to handle terrible news, so his Kindergarten teacher wouldn't have talked about it anyway. What's your opinion?
