A 27-year-old Walla Walla man is facing multiple charges after leading authorities on a chase that ended with the car he was driving becoming part of the shrubbery in a home in Milton-Freewater.

Oregon State Police, along with officers from Milton-Freewater and Athena, OR captured Antonio Saturnino Contreras after he led officers on a car chase shortly before 11am Tuesday.

An Oregon State Patrol officer attempted to pull Contreras over on Highway 11 but he refused to stop.  He led the officer and an Athena police cruiser on a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph before the trooper terminated the pursuit near the South end of Milton-Freewater.  The suspect had been driving erratically,  the officers thought further pursuit might lead to another motorist or pedestrian becoming a victim.

Shortly after the chase stopped, the State Patrolman saw Contreras' abandoned 4-foor Toyota wagon sitting in a yard near South Main and 12th Street.  It appeared the suspect had intentionally driven into the yard and struck the home.

Contreras had abandoned the car, but was caught by Milton-Freewater police and the State Patrolman two blocks later in an alleyway after a citizen saw him and notified authorities.

Identifying him as the suspect was made a lot easier because Contreras left his wallet and ID in the car as he fled!  He is facing a multitude of charges and is in the Umatilla County Jail.  Here's the laundry list of what he's facing:

* Fugitive from Justice (warrant)
* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
* Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person
* Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
* Misdemeanor Driving While Revoked

Turns out the car he was driving was reported as stolen to the Walla Walla Police Department Monday!
