Supporters of a proposed carbon tax initiative say they've got enough signatures to get the idea onto the ballot for 2016 here in Washington state.

Initiative 732 would create a carbon tax (or pollution tax) while supposedly lowering other taxes as an offset.  Supporters this week turned in another 100,000 signatures to Secretary of State Kim Wyman's office, according to the Seattle Times.

This brings their total to over 350,000.  According to state law, initiatives must generate at least 246,732 legitimate registered voters signatures. The office will now begin to validate the signatures on this and other proposed initiatives.

The measure was put up by environmental groups after Gov. Inslee's proposals for a carbon tax was largely thwarted by the legislature. They had promised to propose such an initiative if Inslee was not successful in getting some sort of pollution tax aimed at businesses, industry and even motorists.
